Raipur: About a week after the 9 February encounter in Bijapur, 31 Maoists were closed, three of them were not yet identified. Other 28 gave a cumulative reward of Rs 1.1 crore. Police said 17 of them were ‘senior cadre’; Some were part of the IED squad of Maoists and were involved in the 6 January blast who killed eight security personnel and a civil driver.
Bastar Range IGP Sundararaj said that a senior Maoist commander of the West Bastar Division Committee Member, Hung Karma aka SonakuOne of those killed was a reward of 8 lakh rupees. Sonaku joined the banned organization in 1996 and had eight cases of murder, robbery and kidnapping against him. He was involved in several Maoist attacks, including an attack on the 6 January IED blast, Murkiner Camp in 2006, killing 11 jawans and 2007 Ranibodli camp attack in which 55 security people died.
Nine of the Maoists were members of the Kshetra Committee – each was carrying a bounty of Rs 5 lakh – and seven ‘members of the platform party committee’ (PPCM), each, each had a prize of Rs 5 lakh.
