Three people are in hospital, two of them with life-threatening injuries, after a serious collision late Saturday night when a motorist fled a traffic stop and led police on a pursuit north of London, Ont.

According to authorities, an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer attempted to stop a man for a driving-related offense on Highway 4 in Arawa just before 11 p.m. Police said the driver did not comply and The vehicle fled at speed, resulting in a high-speed chase. , Moments later, the motorist collided with another vehicle on the highway.

The fleeing suspect and two people in the other vehicle, a man and a woman, were taken to a hospital near London. Authorities have confirmed that the driver of the fleeing vehicle and another person are in critical condition, while a third victim is in critical condition.

Highway 4 was closed in both directions between Medway Road and Sunningdale Road while investigators investigated the scene. The road has since reopened.

Due to the nature of the incident and the OPP’s involvement in the investigation, the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has taken over the investigation. They have assigned three investigators and two forensic investigators to the case.

In an email, the SIU confirmed that an officer has been named as the subject of investigation.

The SIU is urging anyone with surveillance footage, dash cam footage or additional information to contact them.
