The saffron party has meticulously curated its list of 195 contenders across the nation.As it has featured 34 Union ministers, 2 former chief ministers, 28 women candidates, 47 youth candidates, 27 candidates from the scheduled castes. 18 candidates from the scheduled tribes, and 57 candidates from other backward classes (OBC) across 14 states and 4 union territories.
While some seasoned leaders secured renominations based on their performance, notable senior BJP figures failed to secure their chances in upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
In a surprising move, the incumbent Lok Sabha MP from Bhopal, Pragya Singh Thakur, was replaced by Alok Sharma, the former mayor of Bhopal. It is speculated that the party denied ticket to Pragya Singh Thaur due to her controversial statement in the recent times.
Former Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar also failed to secure his Morena constituency. Tomar lost his nomination to an incumbent MLA of Dimani, Shivmangal Singh Tomar.
The political chessboard also observed strategic moves in West Bengal, where the party has fielded Pawan Singh from Asansol against Shatrughan Sinha from TMC. Former actress Jaya Prada was also replaced by Ghanshyam Lodhi from Rampur.
BJP also announced the candidature for 5 out of 7 seats in Delhi. Even after winning all the 7 Delhi Lok Sabha seats, the party has changes its candidates on most of the seats of the national capital.
While only actor-turned-politician Manoj Tiwari was able to retain his seat from North-east Delhi, the other four Lok Sabha seats will witness fresh faces in the upcoming elections.
While Meenakshi Lekhi was replaced by the Bansuri Swaraj from New Delhi, Praveen Khandelwal replaced former Union minister Dr Harsh Vardhan from Chandni Chowk seat. Lok Sabha MP Ramesh Bidhuri and Pravesh Verma also failed to retain their seats.
The party is yet to announce candidates for North Delhi and East Delhi seats.
