Kingpin 2 Is Still Happening, But The Script Is Proving To Be A Challenge [Exclusive] – SlashFilm Trending Global News

So what would a “Kingpin” sequel entail? Well, that seems to be the challenge. We caught up with Peter Farrelly leading up to the release of his new comedy “Ricky Stanicky” with John Cena, and asked for a status update on “Kingpin 2.” Farrelly explained:

“It’s a work in progress. We’re not quite there yet. We had developed it a little, and it didn’t quite go where we wanted it to go. We don’t want to do it unless it’s going to be amazing. I don’t want to do something like — it would have been easy to do a lot of things, but I want it to be worth doing, and we’ve just gotta get the script right, honestly. I always tell people, ‘What’s the hardest part of making a movie? The script. By far. Not even close.’ Shooting a movie’s just a joy, a pleasure. Editing it is unbelievably fun — seeing it come together, all the pieces, laying the music in, it’s coming alive. It’s joyful. Writing is hard. I want to get it right, so we’re still bouncing around ideas. We’re not sure, but we are developing it, yes.”

Farrelly wouldn’t clarify whether this would be a legacy sequel featuring new characters along with the return of Woody Harrelson and Randy Quaid or if we would focus on the original duo again, but at least we know they’re still working on the movie. Admittedly, bringing Randy Quaid back could prove to be difficult, since he’s famously fled the United States into Canada and lives a life with his wife that has “alienated friends and family, and turned the couple into outlaws,” according to Vanity Fair’s extensive profile on the actor back in 2010. There’s a whole slew of other reasons, including felonies and more, that may leave Quaid out of “Kingpin 2,” but we won’t know for sure until there are story details.

As of now, we don’t even know who has been working on the script, so we’ll just have to be patient. We just hope “Kingpin 2” doesn’t get Munson’d out there in Hollywood development hell.
