Raymond Muratala took his undefeated record to 21-0 with a unanimous decision win over former world champion Tevin Farmer – he then went on to beat Dennis Berinchyk and Shakur Stevenson.
Muratalla won 97-92, 96-93 and 95-94 on the scorecards in Saturday night's lightweight contest against Farmer, who was the IBF super featherweight title holder from 2018 to 2020.
The Californian is now expected to face either WBO lightweight champion Denis Berinchyk or WBC lightweight kingpin Shakur Stevenson.
The 27-year-old said: “I want to play the next match as the champion. Berinchyk called my name. I'm calling his name right now. If I can't get Berinchyk, I want Shakur.”
Muratalla vs. Farmer became the main contest in Las Vegas after WBO and IBF middleweight champion Janibek Alimkhanuly had to withdraw from his defense against Andrei Mikhailovich due to dehydration.
The 33-year-old Farmer certainly outmuscled Muratalla in the first half of the bout, showcasing his speed and counter-striking ability with his southpaw style, but as the bout progressed, Muratalla’s added power diminished his effectiveness.
Farmer, who had the sixth loss in his 41-fight career, was deducted a point for holding in the eighth round before Muratalla won the 10th and final round with several body shots and a powerful right hand.
The winner said: “He was moving around. He was holding on. So I had to keep the pressure on. And we came out with the win.”
“I kept the pressure on. I kept the pressure on. My team told me to keep the pressure on. I was beating him round after round.”
One disappointed Farmer said: “This points deduction was crazy. I feel like we were both caught out.
“Whenever I tried to get out, he held my hand, so it felt like I was holding him. But it's the referee. He makes the decision. You have to put up with it.”
