“‘Cut!’ is about carrying myself throughout the day, being well-rested, not having a single hair out of place, not cancelling any plans with friends because I want you to think I’m doing so well,” she shared in a press release. “Maybe all of these things are true, but at night, I take off the mask and allow myself to scream or fall apart to let the steam out of the kettle.”

Morris described herself as bisexual June – and the song appears to be part of her sexual awakening.

“I’ve been waiting for a night like this / The west end, red lips / We can test my hypothesis / Your hands, my hips,” reads the first line. Morris continues, singing about “how your perfume smells on me later,” before jumping into the sensual chorus.

“I want you in my bed ’cause I don’t need no more friends / The closer you get to me, I want you to push me away,” she sings. “It feels good to sit on the fence between my legs / The closer you get to me, I want you to push me away.”

‘Because, of course’

It’s unclear what Morris’ intention is behind this song. However, it seems to be reminiscent of his 2020 song “Better Than We Found It” in the first verse.

“I won’t try to be your friend. I just want you out of my heart, out of my mind. That’s the way a woman goes,” the song reads. “Even if it’s killing me, I’ll make it so easy that even you can believe me. Go ahead and look me in the eye, go ahead and tell me you’re surprised.”

The last line of the song also leaves a big impression.

“You dare ask me why I’m not crying,” Morris sings. “I did all the crying lying next to you.”
