Surrey moved closer to winning a third successive Vitality County Championship title after completing a 10-wicket win over Durham at the Kia Oval with a day to spare.
Durham, who began the third day trailing by 152 runs, never recovered after losing two wickets in the first over to Dan Worrell.
Worrall and Sam Curran, playing in the Championship for only the second time this season, took four wickets each to bowl out Durham for 177 in the second innings, with only Emilio Gay (48) sticking around for long.
That left Surrey needing just 25 runs to complete their eighth win of the campaign and captain Rory Burns and Dom Sibley reached the target with five overs to spare. It was their sixth win at the Kia Oval this season, with only Somerset, who drew in April, preventing them from completing a clean sweep at home.
Surrey move closer to County Championship title
The momentum was seized in the first over when Worrell made a double breakthrough. Dan Hogg lost his leg stump and was run out by Ben McKinney off a superb delivery, while Durham lost three wickets in the first half hour when Jordan Clark bowled Alex Lees.
David Bedingham came only halfway forward to Curran’s sixth ball and was lbw and Ollie Robinson was also beaten by a late inswing that dislodged his off stump and left Durham’s innings in disarray at 74-6.
Gay, who was making his Durham debut before moving permanently from Northamptonshire this winter, returned to good form and gave Durham hope by adding 46 with Bas de Leede after lunch. Worrall returned to dismiss Gay at the Pavilion End, before another inswinger from Curran dismissed de Leede.
Tom Lodge delivered a superb ball which James Minto headed past goalkeeper Ben Foakes, followed by another quick ball from Curran which was too good for Chemar Holder to head home, before Surrey reached their modest target with ease.
Somerset They needed to beat the relegation-battlers Lancashire to keep their title hopes alive, and were 189 runs short of victory at stumps on day three at Old Trafford.
Chasing 393 for victory, Archie Vaughan made 68, his maiden first-class half-century, and Tom Lammonby made 49 in a fine second wicket partnership, while George Balderson and Luke Wells took two wickets each to leave Somerset 204–6 at stumps.
Wicketkeeper-batsman James Reeve remained unbeaten on 24 as Somerset looked to pile on the pressure again in the morning in a bid to take the title race to the final match.
Surrey gained 23 points to take their score to 221, 31 points ahead of Somerset with their match at Old Trafford still to play. Surrey will face Essex at Chelmsford in the final round, with Somerset hosting Hampshire.
Elsewhere, Kent After losing by 10 wickets at home, they were certain to be relegated to Division Two. NottinghamshireThe hosts were bowled out for 230 in the second innings and Nottinghamshire needed just 23 runs to win, which they achieved inside 21 balls.
Sussex They secured promotion from Division Two of the Vitality County Championship with one game to spare after securing an innings win over Gloucestershire at Bristol.
Gloucestershire were bundled out for 195 as Sussex needed less than a session on day three to beat their hosts. Left-arm pacer Jaydev Unadkat took 3-39 and match figures of 7-71, while Henry Crocombe took 4-22 as Sussex won by an innings and seven runs.
