10. The claim for a permanent seat in the UNSC strengthened.
During PM Modi’s visit, the issue of permanent membership in the United Nations General Assembly was also discussed. The US has supported India’s claim. In a statement released by the White House, President Biden said in his conversation with PM Modi that the United States supports reform initiatives in international institutions, including the United Nations, to maintain India’s important voice. India’s permanent membership in the Security Council is also included. The statement said that we will reform the UN Security Council. We will recognize the urgent need to make the United Nations Security Council more representative, inclusive, transparent, efficient, effective, democratic and accountable by expanding its membership in both permanent and non-permanent categories. In September last year, Biden supported India’s bid for permanent membership in the UNSC in a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Modi during the G-20 summit in New Delhi. These countries have important powers, including the ability to veto proposals. India has been elected a non-permanent member of the UNSC eight times. The latest term is 2021-22.

Prime Minister Modi has met Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Ukrainian President Zelensky in the US. We reiterated India’s support for early resolution of the conflict and restoration of peace and stability in Ukraine.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Masri said that in the meeting with President Zelensky, PM Modi said that he has always talked about moving forward on the path of peace.
