Prime Minister Narendra Modi has written a blog on International Day of Persons with Disabilities. He has expressed his experiences and thoughts in the article entitled ‘Service of the disabled and the elixir of self-respect’. He wrote that this occasion is like a holy day for our country. Respect for persons with disabilities is embedded in our country’s ideology. A sense of respect for persons with disabilities can be seen in our scriptures and folklore.
In this article he has also mentioned a verse from Ramayana. He wrote- Passion is strong, great, and there is no greater power than passion. Nothing is rare in this world of courage. That is, nothing in the world is impossible for a person who has enthusiasm in his mind. Today, our disabled people in India are becoming an energy of honor and respect for the country with the same enthusiasm.
Prime Minister Modi wrote in the blog that this year the day is also special because the Constitution of India has completed 75 years this year. The Constitution of India encourages us to work for equality and freedom.
The Prime Minister wrote that since I came into public life, I have made efforts to make the lives of disabled people easier on many occasions. After becoming the Prime Minister, I pledged this service to the nation. After the formation of the government in the year 2014, we first decided to popularize the word devyang instead of the word viklang. This word has also increased the respect of disabled people in the society.
Along with this, Prime Minister Modi also targeted the previous governments. He wrote that due to the policies of previous governments, people with disabilities have been left behind in the race for government jobs and higher education. But today the situation has changed. The amount spent on the welfare of the disabled has also tripled in the last ten years.
“I say with full confidence that when we celebrate the 100th anniversary of independence in 2047, our friends with disabilities will be seen as an inspiration to the whole world,” he wrote. Today we have to commit to this goal.
