A 28-year-old youth was brutally murdered over an old enmity in Basui village of Odisha’s Dhenkanal district. This event took place on the first day of the new year. The deceased has been identified as Rakesh Sethi, son of late Ranji Sethi, who was allegedly attacked by Saroj Biswal (35), a resident of the same village.
According to locals, Biswal, who had a long-standing feud with Sethi, attacked him with a bamboo stick when he was returning home in the afternoon. After Sethi fell unconscious during the attack, the accused allegedly hacked her body into pieces with an axe. The villagers also claimed that Biswal had earlier tried to attack Sethi’s wife and two young sons but they managed to escape.
On receiving the information, Kamakhya Nagar Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Gyan Ranjan Mishra and Purging Inspector In-Charge (IIC) Priya Barta Das reached the spot and started investigation. A case of murder has been registered and raids are on to nab the accused, who fled the village soon after the attack. The police have started a search to bring the culprit to justice. Both the accused and the deceased belong to the same village. There was an old rivalry between them. The accused also had a criminal background in the area. After committing the murder, he fled the scene.
Dhenkanal SP said – Our team along with the scientific team went to the spot and inquired and collected the evidence. The body has been sent for post-mortem. BNS 103 and SC/ST Act have been booked against the accused as the deceased belongs to SC caste, further investigation is on.
Here the wife of the deceased said – ‘When my husband was going to the market to buy chicken, a man named Mako started attacking him. After a few minutes my son started yelling at him. When I reached the spot, this person attacked me and my son, few minutes later I saw that my husband was cut with a sword, I don’t know why all this happened to my husband.
