Former NFL cornerback Richard Sherman praised Baker Mayfield’s competitive edge, highlighting the quarterback’s “petty” nature as a positive trait. His comments mark a remarkable turnaround from his previous struggles in 2019.

Baker Mayfield’s journey from ignoring critics to $100 million signing

Baker Mayfield’s approach to dealing with criticism has evolved significantly. Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, he revealed his separation from social media.
“I used to keep a lot of notes and try to prove people wrong but that’s not the way to live a life,” Mayfield said.
The change has paid dividends. Mayfield recorded career-best numbers by throwing for 4,500 yards and 41 touchdowns in 2024. His performance helped lead the Buccaneers to consecutive NFC South titles. He went from being a quarterback almost out of the league to signing a three-year, $100 million contract.
“You’ve got to believe in yourself, you’ve got to keep going, play for each other,” Mayfield said in a press conference.
