A new study has found that cleaning teeth at least once a week can reduce the risk of stroke caused by blood clots and heart random heartbeat.
The research, which will be presented next week at the International Stroke Conference 2025, was reviewed how regular people adopt hygiene habits such as brushing and interrupting teeth.
The main author of the research, Sovak Sen, who is affiliated with the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, says: ‘According to a recent global health report, mouth diseases, for example, tooth decay that was not treated. The gum diseases affected three and a half billion people in 2022. It is one of the most common diseases in the world. ‘
He added: ‘We intend to know which factors of mouth cleaning, such as dental interruptions, brushing or going to a regular dentist, have the most effect on stroke.’
Researchers developed an integrated questionnaire to assess the use of toothpaste in homes, which was given to people over six thousand. The results showed that 4092 of the brusters never got a paralysis, while 4050 people were not diagnosed with random heartbeat.

In the past, research has shown that random heartbeat can lead to stroke, cardiovascular movement or other heart complications. People in this study also provided information about other health factors, including high blood pressure, diabetes, abuse of cholesterol, smoking, body weight, academic background, daily brushing and dental inspection habits. There were
434 participants were diagnosed with stroke while reviewing the situation for almost 25 years. Some of these major arteries were affected by the blood clots, some were the main cause of the stroke to the heart, while the other was shown as symptoms of stroke due to the harder arteries. During this time 1291 participants were found randomly.
Statistics analysis revealed that cleansing teeth saw a 22 % reduction in the risk of a state stroke (a condition in which the blood flows to the brain). Researchers also discovered that dental hygiene habits could reduce the risk of traveling from the heart of the blood to the body by 44 %, while the risk of heartbeat was reduced by about 12 %.
This relationship remained regular, regardless of regular teeth brushing, routine dental inspection or other hygiene habits. Scientists say clearing teeth can increase the chance of further reduction of stroke.
In this regard, the head of the research, Dr. Swuke Sen, said: ‘Mouth health habits are related to inflammation and arteries. Cleaning teeth may be likely to reduce the risk of stroke that this process reduces mouth diseases and inflammation and promotes other healthy habits. ‘
He added, “Many people consider dental treatment expensive, but cleaning them is a healthy habit that is not only easy to adopt but also cheap and available everywhere.”
