Lahore:
Pakistan’s national debt decreased, according to the finance ministry document, 73.9 % of GDP debt in 2022 has now been reduced to 67.2 %.
This is the Shahbaz Sharif government’s significant success and concrete steps to reduce debt. According to the law, the national debt should be less than 60 % in accordance with the GDP so that loans and interests are not detrimental to the Pakistani economy.
The tendency to borrow indiscriminately in the PTI government also played an important role in increasing inflation.
When the PTI came to power, the national debt to Pakistan was Rs 24,950 thousand billion, but in the three years of eight months, an external and internal loan of 20,558 thousand billion was taken, after which the national debt reached 45,538 thousand billion. Governments could not reduce it and they have now reached 71,200 thousand billion.
