Jackson has represented Sprous Woods since 2023, and has previously served as an assistant to Maguire.

The resignation means that a by -election should be held within six months in Sprous Woods.

Valley Dodrich, a leadership candidate for provincial toris, says he is planning to run for the legislature seat.

Jackson said he was surprised to hear about Maguire’s health issues and he feels that he has big shoes to fill.

“I have no longer been in Ottawa for a while, but (I) definitely familiar with the ropes there, so I think I have a good position to step.”
