New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday that the global churning has thrown opportunities for India and it was the responsibility of the bureaucracy not to waste it.
Addressing Civil Services Day celebrations, PM Modi said that bureaucracy and policy making cannot work on the old outline in the rapidly changing world, and insisted that the world is eager to invest in India, it is necessary to take all the necessary steps to ensure these opportunities.
He said that the bureaucracy should be developed in a “active architect” of development rather than being “the protector of rules books”, he said, urged bureaucrats to ensure widespread and inclusive development.
“There was a time when the role of the bureaucracy was primarily a regulator – one that controlled the speed of industrialization and entrepreneurship. But the country has now moved ahead of that mindset. Today, we are creating an environment that promotes the enterprise among citizens and helps them to remove every barrier.
The comment came against the background of the expectation that instability has been injected into global trade by US President Donald Trump, resulting in opportunities for India as well as, at the same time, it is feared that a well -entered mentality of bureaucracy may come in the way.
On the important role of bureaucracy in achieving the goals related to energy security, clean energy, sports, space and others, the PM said that it is a big responsibility to ensure that India has no delay in achieving the goal of creating the world’s third largest economy. “We must evaluate every field: is our current speed enough to achieve the goals set by us? If not, we should expedite.
Referring to the progress made in the last decade and further works such as construction of more houses for the poor, tap water connection for every house, better waste management and free medical treatment up to Rs 5 lakh, PM Modi said that now there is a need to meet new commitments for nutrition across the country. The PM said, “Our single goal must be: 100% coverage, 100% effect. This very approach has helped to bring 25 crore people out of poverty in the last 10 years. And, Poverty -free India will be born from this point of view.”
He said that true progress does not mean minor change, but has a full -scale influence. The PM said that clean water in every house, quality education for every child, financial reach for every entrepreneur and digital economy reaches every village, it is what the overall development really means. PM Modi said, “I believe that quality in governance does not come only by starting the schemes. Rather, the quality in governance is defined as to how depth a plan reaches people and it produces real impact.”
