Celtic have made an offer to sign Adam Idah from Norwich City on a permanent basis this summer.
The striker joined Brendan Rodgers' side on loan in the winter and scored nine goals in 19 games – including the winning goal in the Scottish Cup final against Rangers – as Celtic won the Premiership title.
Sky Sports News It was revealed in January that the loan deal contained no option-to-buy clause but, speaking in May, Rodgers made it clear he was keen to keep the 23-year-old at the club this summer.
“He’s been a real catalyst for us,” Rodgers said after the Scottish Cup final win. “I knew what I was getting, he’s quick and dynamic and has power.
“What he has shown since coming on is that he is a goal scorer. Great headers, great movement in the box.
“He’s been very important to us and he’s obviously someone I would want to do something with.”
'Celtic must keep their best players'
When discussing Celtic's summer transfer targets, Sky Sports' Chris Sutton told Sky Sports News Last week: “There is still a lot of work to do for Celtic in the summer but Brendan Rodgers will feel he has regained his footing and will feel he is in a stronger position than he was last season.
“They need a goalkeeper, Joe Hart was brilliant for three seasons and he will be missed and they need big gloves to fill that position. The centre-forward position too. Adam Idah came in in January and he did really well. I would be surprised if they weren't trying to do a deal but Norwich City would want to keep him with their new manager.”
“They definitely need to strengthen the centre-forward position and also keep Matt O'Reilly. They have to keep their best players if they want to do well in Europe next season.
“I always think Celtic should get their work done early in the transfer window, last summer they were delaying it and I wonder why it is being delayed in this transfer window.”
'There's still a lot of work to do'
Assistant John Kennedy explained last week when Celtic were asked if they could make a move for Idah or fellow loanee Paulo Bernardo this summer. Sky Sports News On Thursday: “Again, there’s a lot of conversation happening as we get back into pre-season and hopefully some things will start to happen in the coming weeks.
“There’s still a lot of work to be done and a lot of work to be done.”
