The Education Department of Baghlan, Afghanistan’s northeastern province, has announced the recruitment of 1400 new teachers for the new academic year, including 250 women.

According to the news agency Bakhtar News Agency (BNA), the move is being described as a “important step” towards improving the quality of education in the area and enhancing women’s involvement.

Immediately after the return of power in August 2021, the Taliban administration in Afghanistan banned secondary education for girls, which, according to UNESCO, is missing at least 14 million Afghan girls.

The Taliban government has also banned women’s jobs and running business in Afghanistan.

According to the Director General of Afghanistan Maulvi Amanullah Haqyar, the recruitment process was completed through transparent exams to ensure merit and quality.

“The inclusion of female teachers is an important step toward gender equality in education, which reflects efforts to provide a safe and comprehensive educational environment for students.”

According to the news agency BNA, “the move is important in terms of educational development in the area, especially in the background that 40,261 students have been enrolled for the first party across the province, including 22,242 students and 18,238 students.”

Educational experts say that although the number of female teachers is still insufficient, it certainly creates hope for a new start.

According to the news agency BNA, ‘Baghlan’s Education Department proves that the recruitment of teachers proves that they are determined to improve quality and access to all students in the area.’
