Addressing the rally, social leader Sindhu Nawaz Ghangharu claimed that the federal government is planning to draw out six controversial canals from the Indus River to settle millions of acres of land in Punjab, which would “destroy millions of acres of fertile land in Sindh.” will.’
He said: ‘Despite objection to the 1991 water agreement, Sindh accepted the agreement. Now at least the federal government should stop such projects immediately by signing this agreement, otherwise there will be protests all over Sindh.
Social activist Zahra Khan said Sindh will not accept such controversial projects under any circumstances.
Recently, the federal government announced the construction of Reni Canal and Thar Canal in Sindh, Cholistan Canal, Greater Thal Canal in Punjab, Kuchchi Canal in Balochistan and Chashma Right Bank Canal (CRBC) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The PPP leadership denies this. A few days ago PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto announced in his video statement to oppose and protest the proposed construction of these six canals and the amendment of the Ursa Act.
The committee will meet the PPP leadership to hear its objections to these projects along with other political issues.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had inaugurated the rehabilitation project of the flood-affected parts of the Kachchi Canal taken out from the Taunsa barrage site.

Seven lakh 15 thousand acres of land of Balochistan will be irrigated from Kuchi Canal.
On the other hand, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam held an all-party conference today in Karachi against these plans, in which Pakistan People’s Party, MQM Pakistan, Qaumi Awami Party, Awami National Party, Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan including Sindhi nationalists and other 13 political parties. Briefing the local media after the conference and talking to Independent Urdu, JUI-Sindh leader Rashid Mahmood Soomro said, “In today’s all-party conference, the proposed amendments in the Ursa Act and the construction of new controversial canals were discussed.”
According to the 1991 agreement, Sindh should be given its share of water, which is required to be received in May, but is given in August, causing a loss of billions of rupees to the province’s agriculture. Drinking water is not available in the entire province including Karachi.
He further said that by starting such controversial projects, a few companies are being benefited and millions of people are being harmed.
