Attack on woman doctor in Chandigarh PGI, work stopped in emergency, death of patient Trending Global News

A woman accompanying a patient at Chandigarh PGI assaulted a female doctor. Due to the violence on the female doctor during the emergency duty, there was a commotion and the emergency doctors stopped their work. The matter escalated to such an extent that the doctors flatly refused to treat the patients. After 8 pm, patients admitted to the emergency room are not getting treatment nor are patients being admitted here. Meanwhile, a patient who came here for treatment in a critical condition died due to the doctors’ strike. His family has attributed the reason to the striking doctors.

At 8 pm on Monday, a woman accompanying a patient admitted to PGI’s emergency room assaulted a female resident doctor. After this incident, the doctors started rioting and stopped working in emergency. Resident doctors are protesting at one place. They demand that a police case should be registered against the woman who assaulted the doctor and strict security arrangements should be made for the doctors in future, only after that they will return to work. After receiving the information about the disturbance, the police of PGI police station also reached the spot. A female patient resident of New Chandigarh died due to lack of treatment after the emergency was closed. The name of the patient is Sunita Devi.

There was a strike for several days in protest against the Kolkata rape case.

Earlier, the doctors of Chandigarh PGI staged a protest and stopped work for several days over the rape and murder of a female trainee doctor in Kolkata. As about 1500 resident and trainee doctors of PGI went on strike together, patients and their attendants in almost all wards, OPDs and emergency faced a lot of trouble. Every day thousands of patients from Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan visit PGI for treatment.
