The Sky Sports Rugby League’s Barry McDermot rivals take down the memori lane journey with some of the most prestigious super league deris on the horizon in the era of rivals …
The rugby league has something about Easter. This is not only chocolate eggs and long weekends – it is rivalry. Raw, incompetent, bone-tejaswi rivalry, who has ever seen our game. Stress, drama, passion – and usually a little chaos for good remedies.
Over the years, the period of Easter has given some complete beltors. I played in my appropriate part, but, getting ready for my game or resting later, I was always clinging to the TV. Here is my eye that is still talking to the heart race and fans …
2004: Surely the best Easter Game
A pack headingley – 21,225 Thursday night in a full voice on a crisp. Leeds lost to Bradford five times last year, and Bulls arrived expecting more than that. But a young Danny McGire had other views – fresh from the bench, he burnt with two attempts to furore at night. Leeds defeated it 21–18 in a thriller, which felt like changing the guard. A proper rhinoceros statement.
After the day – St. Helens vs Vigan Warriors.
Good Friday, and it turned off – truly. In front of 16,000 fans, Saints and Wigan served an immediate classic. Similar parts high quality rugby and pure war. The biggest controversy of the Super League era broke – Skulathorpe vs Fareel did all this in a heavyweight shodown. The score 17-All, flying in the drop goal and boiling the emotions ended. You can’t stop looking at it – even for a second.
2016: plow KR vs plow FC
I was in the commentary box with Bill Arthur and Terry O’Coner, and it was one of the games where you are lucky to live there. KR extended 20–0 with 58 minutes. Fans of the house were singing, FC fans were slipping. And then … blast. Jamie Shal, Mahe Phoneua, Danny Huton – Try after trying in a remarkable FC return. After the final whistle, Lee Redford’s emotional interview was pure gold – a coach that lived every second.
1998 – Bradford Bulls vs Leeds Rhines
Odsal was jumping. Not for hostile, loud, and unconscious heart. Istyn Harris was unexpected – a hat -trick at the peak of his powers. But the one who actually stood outside was a defensive grit – Fareel, Flery, Morley and Newton placed on a clinic in aggression and will. Graham Murray’s leads were still in their early stages, but you started spreading this belief.
2003 – Wigan Warriors vs. St. Helens
Wigan was down to bare bones. Four Debutants: Mark Roberts, John Whitley, Dave Alan and a certain Kevin Brown. Even Brian Carney formed the team! Saints were red-hot favorite, but Adrian Lam, Terry O’Coner and Craig Smith inspired the children to win. This was followed by one of the biggest good Fridays ever.
After this, the best player got a tisot watch and Kevin Brown did not win the man of the match, but Mike ‘Steve’ Stevenson was not doing so. Legend has he bought a clock himself – he probably went to the local market and paid about £ 8.99!
2017 – Castleford Tigers vs. Wakefield Trinity
CAS was flying in 2017, and why the game showed well. They used to tear with a swagger and style through Wakefield 42-24 in which fans were dreamed of. Derryl Powell’s side was the poem in motion – free -Pravah, fearless and fantastic to see. They did not go all the way, but they gave us one of the most entertaining seasons in the recent memory.
2000 – St. Helens vs Wigan Warriors
Nozale road jumping and busting on the seam. It had its own energy. Kevin Ireo rioted with a hat-trick against his old club, and the mercurial Tommy Martin-Mein was one of the favorite team-mothers of all time, so Chutily skilled and charismatic-a double. The monk stopped Rome 38–14 in the house, and the crowd soaked every second. Like that days, they live in memory for a long time.
2002 – Wournington Volvs vs. Vidness Vikings
Vidne was recently promoted and unaffected in the game, but he came to play. There was no place for wilderspool timid, but fearless vikings dug and won 20–14. Darren Carter and Steve McCrary led the allegation, while a young Lee Bryers threw everything at them. But the chemical was standing long. A true underdog triumph.
That opponent is round for you.
It is only more than points and table positions – it is history, pride and emotion, which is rolled into the theater without 80 minutes. These sports do not just define the weather – they define ages.
