The Ghaziabad police have arrested a bus conductor in a parrot smuggling case following a complaint by animal welfare NGO ‘People for Animals’ (PFA). Police say that after searching the bus, 200 parrots have been found hiding in Stepney. Meanwhile, many parrots were found injured.
The arrested conductor has been identified as Bajrang Lal, a resident of Sawai Madhopur district of Rajasthan, said ACP Wave City Lippi Nagaich, according to the news agency. Reportedly, he often brought caged parrots from Moradabad to Jaipur. Acting on a tip-off, police stopped a bus near an institute in Ghaziabad’s Dasna town on Thursday.

Two smugglers fled the scene.
Police searched and recovered two cages containing 200 parrots, which had been forcibly packed. ACP said that some parrots were found injured. The cages were hidden in the stepney (spare tire) area and covered with gunpowder bags. Alleged smugglers Shakeel Khan (48) and Tawfiq Khan (46) escaped from the spot. In this regard, a case has been registered against the accused under sections 61(2) (criminal conspiracy) and 325 (killing or maiming an animal) of the Indian Penal Code, besides the Wildlife Protection Act and Prevention of Cruelty.
