What instructions did LG give?
At the beginning of the meeting, the LG reviewed the flood situation especially in Bawana area due to the breach in Mandaka Canal. Officials told the LG that all their instructions were being followed on the spot. The CEO of DJB, who was present at the meeting, said that the repair work of the canal was going on fast and would be completed by Friday evening. The LG directed the concerned agencies, Irrigation and Flood Control Department, PWD, MCD, NDMC to carry out comprehensive cleaning of drains and clear all blocked drains immediately. The work was supposed to be completed by June 15.
The LG also directed to hand over the responsibility of running the regulators of these drains to the I&FCD. For this he also directed the department to hire additional manpower from other departments and agencies. The LG was informed that 29 teams of NDRF have been deployed in Delhi region with more than 100 boats to carry out relief and rescue work in case of floods.
Important decisions and instructions in the meeting
➤ Drains should be cleaned immediately, garbage/encroachment should be removed.
➤ Install permanent and temporary pumps at sensitive locations, 24 hours monitoring from control room.
➤ Immediately review the silt removed from all 22 major drains and clear all road bridges immediately.
➤All debris, construction materials and heavy machinery should be cleared from the Yamuna floodplain.
➤Construction waste should be removed from Signature Bridge immediately.
➤ Operators, engineers and technicians will be deployed 24×7 at all regulators and barrage gates.
➤When the Yamuna crosses the danger mark, the Revenue Department and the District Magistrates concerned should make adequate arrangements to evacuate about 25,000 people from the low-lying areas.
➤The Health Department should make adequate arrangements in hospitals to deal with floods and consequent diseases.
➤Highly sensitive areas will be monitored round the clock from the central control room.
