Vishwaraj Singh
Following a row between the royal family in Udaipur, the district administration has now appointed a receiver for the disputed portion of the City Palace in the city. Also, Udaipur District Magistrate Arvind Poswal has issued the order. Under Section 163 of the Indian Penal Code, gathering in a group of 5 or more people and display of various types of weapons at a place within a distance of 500 meters from Jagadish Chowk in Udaipur city will be prohibited.
According to the officials, the decision was taken after the tension on Monday night when Vishwaraj Singh and his supporters entered the shrine to pay darshan of Dhoni. In fact, according to tradition, after the death of Mahendra Singh Mewar, a former member of the royal family of Mewar and former MP Mahendra Singh Mewar, the coronation ceremony of his eldest son Vishwaraj Singh Mewar was performed on November 25 at the Chittor Fort. After the coronation, Vishwaraj Singh wanted to have darshan of Dhoni at the City Palace in Udaipur, but he was not allowed to have darshan. When Vishwaraj Singh’s supporters came to know about this, they protested outside the palace and the protest turned into a riot, after which the police were called to control the situation.
Appointed receiver
Ghantgarh police station officer Yogendra Kumar Vyas, who was appointed receiver by the additional district magistrate last night, said that the possession has not been taken yet. He said that the situation was under control on Tuesday. On the other hand, Vishwaraj Singh said that he was prevented from going to Dhoni which is his right.
Vishwaraj Singh said that he will visit the Eklingnathji temple on Wednesday. District Collector Arvind Poswal said that an FIR has been registered against unknown persons in connection with last night’s stone pelting and legal action will be taken against them under relevant provisions. He said that efforts are being made to resolve the matter through discussions with both the parties. Markets near City Palace also remained closed today due to tension.
Udaipur District Magistrate Arvind Poswal issued a prohibitory order under Section 163 of the Indian Penal Code till further orders within a radius of 500 meters from Jagdish Chowk in Udaipur city.

Why was the entry blocked?
There is a conflict between Mahendra Singh Mewar (Vishwaraj’s father) and his younger brother Arvind Singh Mewar and the City Palace is controlled by Vishwaraj’s uncle Arvind Singh Mewar. After being appointed receiver for the section from Badipool to Dhoni, Vishwaraj Singh left for his residence without visiting Dhoni at around 1.30 pm on Monday night.
Meanwhile, uncle Arvind Singh Mewar’s son Lakshya Raj Singh Mewar said on Tuesday night that it is not right to risk people’s lives in the name of puja or darshan. He said that some people holding government positions are putting pressure on the administration for personal gain and trying to forcefully enter someone’s house. Lakshi Raj said, “There was a possibility of such a situation, so we informed the management several days ago.” He said that it is not right to mislead people in the name of worship.
Dhoni had to go by tradition.
Dhoni in the City Palace is the place where Vishwaraj had to go for darshan after ascending the throne. After Dhoni, he was to visit the Eklingnathji temple in Udaipur, which is controlled by Arvind Singh. The recipient will now occupy the area and a decision will be made regarding admission.
Both Dhoni and Eklingnathji Mandir are under the control of Arvind Singh Mewar and he had on Monday published two public notices in local newspapers through his lawyer to stop Vishwaraj from entering both the places. They warned of legal action in case of encroachment or damage to property.
After the public notice was published, heavy police force was deployed to handle the situation. After the ceremony, Vishwaraj and his supporters reached Udaipur in large numbers in the evening. Vishwaraj waited for several hours at Jagdish Chowk, a few meters from the City Palace entrance. Meanwhile, his supporters protested.
Poswal and Superintendent of Police (SP) Yogesh Goyal intervened in the matter and held several rounds of separate talks with Vishwaraj Singh and his cousin Lakshiraj Singh Mewar (son of Arvind Singh Mewar) to resolve it. But the talks were fruitless. Meanwhile, stone pelting started at the main gate of City Palace late at night. Stones were pelted from both sides, in which three policemen were injured.
After tensions escalated, the Additional District Magistrate, Udaipur, appointed a receiver in charge of Ghantgarh police station in the disputed section of City Palace – from Badipol to Dhoni. Vishwaraj Singh is a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Nathdwara and his wife Mahima Kumari is an MP from Rajsamand.
