Anders Wejgergang claimed his share of $250,000 of the $1 million prize pool by winning the inaugural EA Sports FC Pro World Championship in Berlin.
Wegergang defeated Yuval Blizovsky in the final on Saturday, beating the 32 players who took part in the three-day competition.
“I didn't realize I actually won, but I thought I played amazing today. I'm just so happy that I finally saw that I'm the best in the world,” said Vejergang. “I'm so grateful to all the people who have helped me throughout my career, but this is just the beginning, and I want to win every tournament from now on and I know I'm good enough to do that.”
The competition kicked off with over 50,000 players from around the world. FC Pro Open champion Pehzin and e-Champions League winner Johnny were among the 32 finalists, but Vejergang came out on top.
Wejrgang emerged from the single-elimination bracket and then dominated Blizowski with a 7–0 win in the grand finals.
“The first-ever FC Pro World Championship delivered incredible storylines and elite EA SPORTS FC competition that matched the reputation of this marquee event and incredible season,” said Sam Turkbas, Senior Director and Commissioner eSports – EA SPORTS. “The first year of FC Pro exceeded our expectations and proved there is a global appetite for competition on a virtual pitch.
“Congratulations to Anders Wejgergang on becoming our first FC Pro World Champion and thank you to all the competitors and fans for making this first season unforgettable.”
