GREENSBORO, N.C. — The start of the first round of the Wyndham Championship was delayed until at least noon Thursday as the area continues to deal with heavy rains generated by the remnants of Hurricane Debby.

Tournament officials announced just after 5 a.m. Eastern time that tee times were postponed and play would not begin until 3 a.m. All facilities at Sedgefield Country Club were closed.

The PGA Tour is expected to provide an update in the afternoon. The first tee time was originally scheduled for 6:50 a.m.

Tournament officials announced late Wednesday afternoon that all Thursday contests would be held without spectators because of weather concerns.

Multiple flash flood warnings were issued for the region overnight, with heavy rainfall affecting the area.

The Wyndham Championship is the final regular-season tournament on the PGA Tour schedule. Based on the results of the tournament, the final field of 70 golfers is determined for the FedExCup Playoffs, which begin the following week.

156 golfers will participate in the Wyndham Championship, which runs through Sunday.
