The Los Angeles Kings are on a four-match winning streak and have won nine consecutive matches at home.
But with a long break between games in preparation to host the Calgary Flames on Wednesday night, the Kings held an intense practice session on Monday.
Los Angeles coach Jim Hiller told LackingsInsider, “We’ve only practiced probably three times in the last month as a team… We had that long road trip, took a break over Christmas, so (it’s) out There was a chance to get out.” .com. “Practice was similar to our preseason practices, where we played hard for 50 minutes, did a lot of work, getting up and down the ice. I hope it resets us back mentally.”
The Kings are coming off a 2-1 win over the visiting Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday, but they know it was a far from top-shelf performance amid a 12-2-2 run. However, Los Angeles will try to complete a perfect five-game homestand and continue the third-longest home winning streak in franchise history.
“The way we won those games; there were some full 60 minutes where we felt like we were on top the whole time,” defenseman Mickey Anderson said. “A game like (Saturday), maybe not have it in most games, but still find a way to get it when we need it and lock it in and then come away with the win. So I think it’s been a mix of everything, but again, these guys are pulling in different directions and that’s a sign of a good team.”
Forward Adrian Kempe has goals in three straight games and is riding a five-game point streak with three goals and three assists.
The Flames arrived in Los Angeles after claiming a 3-2 overtime victory over the host Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday, the first part of a road trip with their mothers on the trip.
“It’s always good to get a win, especially in front of the moms,” said Calgary forward Nazem Kadri. “I think it’s a little bit more extra incentive. It looks like they’ve had a bit of a day, so it’s good to see them enjoying themselves.”
Calgary snapped a two-game losing streak and moved into a tie with the Vancouver Canucks for the second wild-card spot in the Western Conference. However, the Flames have played one game more than the Canucks.
But even amid those losses, the Flames believed they were playing well enough to win.
Against Anaheim, he opened the scoring when a point shot bounced off defenseman McKenzie Weegar and into the net. The winning goal was a matter of a misdirected clearing attempt by Anaheim’s Jacob Trouba, which ended up going past Jonathan Huberdeau in front of the open net.
“We’ve found a way to get the short end of the stick,” Weegar said. “When you get some bounces — off my pads, I don’t even know how that overtime goal happened — those bounces are great, but we earned those chances. We played hard for those chances. The game is fair. , so I thought we played hard, we were on the other side of those bounces, and we’ll take them when we can.”
There was no immediate update on the status of Flames center Connor Zary, who left the game after suffering a knee injury to Drew Helson, for which he was assessed a major fine and a game misconduct.
Zari is third on the team in both goals (10) and points (22).
