Sean Manaea struck out 10 batters in seven innings, helping the visiting New York Mets beat the St. Louis Cardinals 6–0 in a makeup game played on May 8.

Manaea (8-4), who gave up six hits and none walks, had pitched 14 scoreless innings and struck out 21 batters in his previous two games. Ryne Stanek and Edwin Diaz each pitched one hitless inning to support Manaea.

Tyrone Taylor hit a three-run double and Jeff McNeil hit a solo home run and drove in two runs for the Mets, who bounced back after losing their previous two games.

Cardinals starting pitcher Andre Pallante (4-6) allowed five runs on five hits and two walks in 4 2/3 innings. He had two strikeouts.

St. Louis went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position. The Cardinals have lost four of their last five games and eight of their last 12.

The Mets took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Pete Alonso walked with one out and Jose Iglesias lined a single to left field. After McNeil grounded into a forceout, Alonso scored on a wild pitch.

Manaea allowed a one-out double to Nolan Arenado in the bottom of the inning, but he struck out the next two batters.

The Cardinals threatened again in the third inning when Pedro Paez hit a leadoff single and Tommy Pham hit a two-out single. But Manaea struck out Willson Contreras to avert the threat.

Manaea stranded two more runners in the fourth inning and got Pages out after Alec Burleson and Brendan Donovan hit two-out singles.

The Mets extended their lead to 5–0 in the fifth inning. McNeil hit a single with one out, moved to second on Francisco Álvarez’s single, and scored on Harrison Bader’s double.

After Francisco Lindor walked, Taylor cleared the bases with his double.

McNeil hit a homer to right in the sixth inning to extend New York’s lead to 6-0. It was his 10th homer of the season.
