PARIS — The United States won gold in the Olympic women’s 4×100-meter relay on Friday, their 12th title in the event, while Great Britain missed on the final attempt.
The US team of Melissa Jefferson, Twanisha Terry, Paris Olympic 200m champion Gabby Thomas and Sha’Carri Richardson clocked 41.78 seconds after swinging the baton around the track without a mishap.
Britain cannot say the same.
Leading the US for three stages, Amy Hunt struggled to pass the baton to Daryl Neita amid torrential rain at the Stade de France. Neita lost all her momentum but still led Britain to silver in 41.85 seconds.
Germany won the bronze medal in 41.97 seconds.
The United States has dominated the event with 12 Olympic titles but lost to great rivals Jamaica at the Tokyo Olympics.
