Sources say an emergency plan will be developed within the Ministry of Energy in this regard
ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-July 27th2024) The Federal government decided to end provision of free electricity to the public institutions and officers, the sources close to the development said on Saturday.
The sources from the Power Division said that the federal government made the decision due to intense public and political pressure.
“An emergency plan will be developed within the Ministry of Energy,” said the sources.
They said that decision included ending provision of free electricity in all government and semi-government institutions.
The proposal, they said, also involved cutting off free electricity for bureaucrats, judges, and parliamentarians.
In the second phase of the emergency plan, the federal government considered withdrawing the provision of free petrol as well.
The plan ensured that only legitimate facilities were provided to the industry and businesses. Besides it, they said that there was a proposal to reduce MDI charges in factories.
The Power Division sources further said that the performance of NEPRA and OGRA would be scrutinized.
