MLA Mewa Singh, CM Deputy Sen.
The Congress has released its first list for the Haryana assembly elections and has approved the names of 32 candidates. The party has given ticket to Mewa Singh from Ladwa seat. There, BJP has fielded CM Nayab Singh Saini from this seat, after which Mewa Singh will face CM Nayab Singh Saini directly on this seat.
The Congress has shown confidence in Mewa Singh from the seat from which the BJP has fielded Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini. Behind this confidence is Mewa Singh’s political journey. Mewa Singh has emerged as a major face of the Congress party in Haryana politics.
Who is Mewa Singh?
Congress had also fielded confidence in Meeva Singh from Ladwa seat in the last assembly elections (2019) and Meeva Singh defeated BJP’s Pawan Saini by 12,637 votes. Mewa Singh entered politics in 1985-86, starting his political journey as a Sarpanch. He then became a part of the Indian National Lok Dal and took over as the President of the Kurukshetra District Council.
The first election was fought on a BJP ticket.
Ladwa is an assembly seat of Kurukshetra district, which was bifurcated from Thanesar constituency of Kurukshetra in 2009. Mewa Singh contested his first election on a BJP ticket. In this election, he could get only 21 thousand 775 votes. In the 2009 elections, Indian National Lok Dal Party’s Sher Singh Badashami won, while Congress’s Kailashu Devi Saini came second.
When did you join Congress?
Mewa Singh left the BJP and joined the Congress in 2011. However, he was convicted in the JBT scam, due to which he could not contest the 2014 elections and his wife Bachchan Kaur contested the election, but she could not win and finished third. BJP’s Pawan Saini won the 2014 elections.
Won in 2019.
After winning in 2014, BJP once again gave ticket to Pawan Saini from Ladwa seat in 2019 elections and this time Congress fielded Mewa Singh. Although it was a tight contest between the two, Mewa Singh won by a margin of more than 12,000 votes. Mewa Singh secured 57,665 votes, while BJP’s Pawan Singh secured more than 45,000 votes.
History of the Ladva Set
Ladwa seat is currently considered as the hot seat of Haryana assembly elections, as the BJP has staked its claim with CM Nayab Saini, due to which the competition in this seat has increased considerably. Congress’s Meva Singh is now in direct competition with BJP’s former CM Naib Saini. However, there have been changes every year as per the date of this seat.
No candidate has managed to win twice in one election. While the INLD won the seat in 2009, the 2014 elections went to the BJP, after which Mewa Singh of the Congress won the seat in 2019. However, it remains to be seen who will crown Ladli Set this time. Haryana is scheduled to go to polls in a single phase on October 5, the results of which will be out on October 8.
