In the current television landscape, “Yellowstone” is king. Above “House of the Dragon” and other big, flashy shows, it’s Taylor Sheridan’s western series that is the most popular show on cable right now. Still, all good things must come to an end. The second part of the show’s fifth season is set to air later this year and could be the show’s swan song. The main reason for this is that Kevin Costner, who has led the show since the beginning as John Dutton, has left the show. How do the rest of the cast feel about this? Luke Grimes at least seems pretty level-headed about Costner’s exit.

In an interview earlier this year hollywood reporterGrimes was asked about Costner’s messy departure from “Yellowstone.” Grimes, who plays Kayce Dutton in the series, was sympathetic to Costner’s reasons for leaving, and was taking a diplomatic approach to what happened.

“Whatever happened there is unfortunate if it changes anything about the show moving forward. I know that, [Costner] Got busy with his films which were like passion projects. At a certain point, you gotta do what you gotta do, man; You have to do what you love.”

The passion project in question was “Horizon: An American Saga,” planned as a four-film epic with Costner directing and starring. “Chapter 1” hit theaters earlier this year and flopped at the box office. Critics were also quite unkind towards the three-hour first instalment. In turn, Warner Bros. removed “Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2” from its release schedule. It remains without a release date. To be clear, that passion project isn’t going so well at first.

Luke Grimes believes Yellowstone’s ending will work for everyone

No one can predict the future. What we do know for sure is that “Yellowstone” now needs to find a way to end things without Costner. This is no small task. Be that as it may, in a recent interview newsweekGrimes addressed the situation further and, assuring the audience, expressed her feeling that the ending would work out for everyone.

“I just feel like it would be inappropriate for me to talk about it in any way because, you know, [the show] It was seven years long and a lot of things happened that I know about and a lot of things happened that I don’t know about. I don’t have a bird’s eye view of that whole situation, you know? All I know is what happened, what happened and there was a huge uproar in the show. We were able to wrap up the show and finish it in a way that I think will really work for everyone, even in the midst of all this.”

The second half of the show’s fifth season has been delayed by more than a year due to Costner’s exit and last year’s Hollywood strikes. For any fans who want to tune in, “Yellowstone” is currently streaming on Peacock. Or, for those who don’t want to subscribe to Peacock, “Yellowstone” Season 5, Part 1 Available on Blu-ray or DVD from Amazon,

For the record, there is a possibility that there could be a “Yellowstone” season 6, with Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser returning in the lead roles of the revamped show. Either way, Sheridan and Paramount still have several other spin-offs in the works, including a second season of “1923” and a new show called “The Madison” to keep the franchise alive. It seems that whatever happens, it will happen without Costner.

“Yellowstone” season 5 will return to Paramount Network in November.
