Guwahati: The wife of a former Manipur MLA died on Saturday in an explosion in the premises of a vacant house located next to their house in the tribal-dominated area. Yamthong HaokipHaokip’s wife Charubala accidentally ignited the IED while burning garbage at a relative’s compound in Saikul. Haokip and their daughter, who were at home at the time of the blast, are safe. Haokip (64) was a two-time MLA from Saikul who quit the Congress and joined the BJP ahead of the 2022 assembly elections. Haokip was a native of Kangpokpi (hills) while Charubala was from the valley (Imphal East).
