Amid the ongoing strained relations between India and Canada, Canada’s Justin Trudeau government has taken another U-turn, as the Canadian government has decided to introduce additional security checks for incoming travelers, reports CBC News. . India’s decision has been withdrawn. This step has been taken amid diplomatic tension between the two countries over the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nanjar.

Transport Minister Anita Anand announced the increased screening earlier this week, saying every passenger arriving in India would be subject to tighter security and screening at the airport. “As an abundance of caution, the Government of Canada will temporarily conduct additional security screening of passengers traveling to India,” Anand said in a statement.

There were long queues at the airport.

Now the government has not given reasons for removing the new protocol. Measures taken by the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) included screening passengers and baggage at airports before entering restricted areas. According to reports, additional checks on flights to India have led to delays and long queues at airports.

The increased investigation was announced after a bomb threat was received on an Air India flight from New Delhi to Chicago in October. The plane was diverted to the Canadian city of Iqaluit, where after an investigation, no explosives were found in the plane.

Adding to the security concerns, Khalistani terrorist group Tunat Singh Pannu recently issued a public threat against Air India flights from November 1 to 19. The warning came on what Pannu described as the “40th anniversary of the Sikh genocide” in India. Pins, who hold dual citizenship of Canada and the US, have made similar threats in the past.

After Najjar’s murder, relations between the two countries became strained.

India and Canada have been at loggerheads ever since Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused Indian agents of involvement in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Najjar. Trudeau made the allegation in September last year. Tensions between the two countries escalated when Canadian police accused Indian diplomats of involvement in Najjar’s murder. After that, the diplomatic crisis escalated.
