New Delhi: India won 44 runs over New Zealand on Sunday, ending Group A in the Champions Trophy. As group leaders, they will take them to Australia in the first semi -finals on Tuesday, while New Zealand is set to face South Africa in Lahore on Wednesday.
Shreyas Iyer anchored India’s innings with a solid 79 off 98 balls, while Hardik Pandya (45) and Axar Patel (42) gave significant contribution. Kane Williamson chased New Zealand with an excellent 81, but Black Caps were excluded for 205 in 45.3 overs. Varun Chakraborty starred with the ball, with a spell winning a 5/42 match in 10 overs.
India’s last win over Australia in the ICC knockout match is in the 2011 World Cup quarterfinals.
Since then, they have reduced against Australian people in major encounters including the 2015 World Cup semi -finals, 2023 World Cup final and 2023 World Test Championship Finals.
