England cricket team all-rounder Moeen Ali has announced his retirement from international cricket after being overlooked for the upcoming white ball series against Australia.
Moin, 37, said in an interview with British newspaper Daily Mail that it is ‘time for the next generation’.
‘I felt the time was right (for retirement). I have done my part.’
He added that he still feels he can play at the highest level, but is ‘trying to be realistic’ about his international future.

Moeen said: ‘I might try to play for England again but I know that realistically, I won’t.’
He played 68 Tests, 138 ODIs and 92 Twenty20 Internationals for England and was instrumental in the country winning both World Cups in the white-ball format.
Matthew Mott was sacked as the head coach of England’s white-ball teams last month after disappointingly failing to defend their ODI and T20 World Cup titles, while Moeen and Jonny Bairstow were dropped for the series against Australia. After being removed from the squad, the English Cricket Board’s desire for further change is evident.
Moeen has been Jos Buttler’s influential vice-captain in recent years.
England will begin hosting the tour with the first T20 match in Southampton on Wednesday.
