Jennie Garth Felt ‘Fearful’ After Luke Perry, Shannen Doherty’s Deaths Trending Global News

“It’s like a piece of your foundation that [is gone]” Garth told the audience, talking about Perry, who was his onscreen girlfriend for years. “No one will ever really understand unless they’re with us [and] He shared this experience with us.”

He added, “It’s hard to believe that other people understand that connection.”

Garth explained that Doherty’s death brought up similar feelings. “It’s crazy that we can be shocked knowing that she was sick and knowing how hard she was fighting, but it was still shocking,” she confessed.

The actress admitted that she “never thought she would lose to cancer” based on how “a fighter” Doherty was. (Doherty was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. The cancer returned as Stage IV three years after she went into remission in 2017. The cancer spread to her brain in 2023.)

“It was very shocking and makes you angry, angry, sad, all kinds of emotions because and then [you’re] Like, ‘What the fuck?’ Because he’s the only person you didn’t see this happen to [to]” Garth continued.

“I learned a lot, you know, how to stand up for myself, how to fight for things that I believed in,” Garth said of her late friend. “I also saw that she was saying what she needed to say, and I thought, ‘I want to be like that. I want to be a person who uses her voice and says what I need to say.’ So she inspired me.”

When asked about what’s next, Garth and Spelling explained that they want to continue the legacy of both Perry and Doherty by participating in fan events for their shows.

“I guess I should try to be strong through this and give [the fans] “We’re just together because it makes them feel better,” Garth said. “Because I know after Luke passed away, we felt good being together. It gave us some relief.”

He added, “There was a thread of love and admiration for each other [on the show] And the support we got was because we had each other. And I don’t think that will ever end. I still feel that way with Luke. I know that as time goes on, it will feel different with Shannon [too],

Spelling added, “I can’t imagine in this lifetime not knowing all of you and going through an experience that, as we say, Jane, no one can understand. And I’m okay with that because I don’t want to share it with anyone else but all of you.”
