Ranchi The ED has approached the Supreme Court against the bail granted to Hemant Soren by the Jharkhand High Court. The news comes at a time when Hemant Soren is back as Chief Minister and has expanded his cabinet. The High Court had granted bail to Soren on June 28. He was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand on 4 July. Earlier on January 31, he had resigned from the post of Chief Minister. There were speculations about making Kalpana Soren the minister but it turned out to be mere speculation. With Jharkhand politics once again taking a turn, Kalpana Soren might be seen in a new role.
Kalpana Soren, who became an MLA after winning the Gande Assembly by-election, has participated in the special session of the Jharkhand Assembly. This is the first time in the history of Jharkhand that two MLAs joined the House as husband and wife. After winning the by-election from Gande, Kalpana has acted with restraint. He did not take the ministerial post but decided to strengthen the party further.
Kalpana Soren stayed away from politics during her 18-year marriage, but when Hemant Soren went to jail, she worked day and night to save her inheritance. He conveyed his and his party's voice to the people on the party's social media platforms. He campaigned for the party by going from village to village regardless of the heat. He held more than 150 meetings during the Lok Sabha elections and soon established himself as the party's star campaigner. The result of their hard work came out in a pleasing form in the results of the Lok Sabha elections. JMM won all the five reserved seats of Khonti, Lohardaga, Chaibasa, Dumka and Rajmahal. Not only this, Kalpana Soren made her presence felt on the stages at India Alliance rallies among the big leaders.
Now what next?
Assembly elections in Jharkhand are due in late 2024. In view of the upcoming elections, the party may give Kalpana Soren a big responsibility. The ED has filed a petition in the Supreme Court against Hemant Soren's bail. In such a situation, Kalpana Surin's challenges may increase.
