Despite the announcement of a seven-day ceasefire by the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in Kuram district, which is surrounded by violent incidents, clashes broke out between the parties on Monday.
A police official from Karam police control room said on condition of anonymity that clashes between the parties are going on in different areas of the district.
He said that the clashes are not limited to a particular area but are going on in different areas, in which there is fear of loss of lives.
According to the police official, ‘We have not yet received confirmed figures but the clashes are continuing.’
A resident from Bagan area of Lower Kurram said on condition of anonymity that the situation is very tense.
He said that both parties are fighting against each other while there is a threat of burning houses in different villages.
‘There is no such thing as government to control this bloodshed and killings.’
He termed the government’s announcement of ceasefire as a ‘lie’ and said that he does not see any kind of ceasefire but the clashes have increased.

After 42 people were killed in an ambush on vehicle convoys in Mandori Uacht area of Lower Kurram on November 21, 24 more people were killed during clashes in the area.
Thus, 66 deaths and at least 120 injuries have been confirmed in the area since November 21.

Barrister Dr. Muhammad Saif, spokesperson of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, announced in a statement on Sunday that a ceasefire has been established between the parties for seven days due to the efforts of the government.
According to Barrister Saif, members of the jirga working for the settlement met with the leaders, after which, in addition to a ceasefire, it was agreed that they would return each other’s prisoners and bodies.
