The Delhi government will legislate for coaching centers running in the capital. This announcement was made by Education Minister Atashi on Wednesday. He said that just as laws have been made for private schools and hospitals, the Delhi government is also going to make laws for coaching centers. A committee will be formed for this, in which apart from the officers, the students of the coaching centers will also be included. Atashi said that after the accident, he hoped that the central government would make a law regarding coaching centers as the issue was a nationwide problem. But the central government has not yet made any such announcement. Therefore, the Delhi government will not wait for the Center to make laws. The Delhi government will legislate for coaching centers running in the capital. It will determine the guidelines on which the coaching centers will be run. Under this, the minimum infrastructure requirement, teacher qualification and fee of coaching institutes will be regulated. These coaching centers will be barred from misleading promotions and regularly inspected.
Atashi said that the government is starting legal action from today. On Wednesday morning, instructions were issued to the Higher Education Department to draft the law. The government has also called some students for a meeting today. The committee will also include officials from the Corporation and the Fire Department.
Encroachments and illegal libraries are major reasons.
Atashi said he had received the preliminary investigation report in the case on July 29, while the full report would take seven days. Two things emerged from this report. First, the drainage channel was encroached upon, causing the water to stagnate. Second, the coaching center and library were being run illegally in the basement. Here only warehouse building or parking was allowed in the basement. Based on this preliminary report, the corporation has sacked the junior engineer who failed to stop the encroachment, while the assistant engineer responsible for violating the rules in the building has been suspended.
