Kevin Magnussen will leave Haas at the end of the 2024 Formula 1 season, and Esteban Ocon is expected to replace him.

This marks the end of Magnussen’s seven-year association with Team Haas, with the 31-year-old first joining in 2017 and returning in 2022.

Magnussen has also secured seats at McLaren and Renault, but the bulk of his 175-race career – 135 races – has been with Haas – and he has 12 more races before the 2024 season completes at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in December.

The Danish driver's best year with Haas was 2018 when he finished ninth and helped Haas to a best finish of fifth in the Constructors' Championship that year.

Ayao Komatsu, Team Principal of MoneyGram Haas F1 Team, said: “I would like to thank Kevin for everything he has given us as a team – both on and off the track. He has really been the backbone of our driver line-up over the years.

“There’s a lot of racing to come this year, so I’m looking forward to seeing what else we can achieve in the championship together with Kevin.”

Magnussen's departure from Haas has been confirmed, so take a look at his incredible celebration after scoring the first pole position of his career at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.

Magnussen said: “I’d like to thank everyone at the MoneyGram Haas F1 Team – I’m proud to have raced for a team of such great people over the last few years.

“I would especially like to thank Gene Haas for their commitment to me, in particular for bringing me back once again in 2022, when I thought that, at least at the time, my time in Formula 1 was over. I have enjoyed some great moments with this team – memories I will never forget.

“While I look forward to the next chapter in my racing career, I am fully focused on giving my all with the MoneyGram Haas F1 Team for the rest of 2024.”

Magnussen currently sits 16th in the Drivers' Championship with five points. His best results have come in Australia, where he finished 10th, and Austria, where he finished eighth.

His Haas team-mate Nico Hulkenberg is one point outside the top 10, behind Aston Martin's Lance Stroll, while Haas are seventh in the Constructors' Championship after 12 races.

Craig Slater of Sky Sports News has predicted that Esteban Ocon could soon announce his move to Haas and questioned whether Mercedes can secure a triple win at the Hungarian Grand Prix

Ocon's departure from Alpine at the end of the 2024 season was confirmed following his collision with teammate Pierre Gasly at the Monaco Grand Prix.

Sky Sports News He said the incident had no influence on Alpine's decision to part ways with Ocon.

The 27-year-old has not yet announced whether he will join another F1 team in 2025, but Sky Sports News He understands that Haas is his most likely destination.

What's next for Magnussen as Ocon awaits?

Craig Slater of Sky Sports News:

“It's not entirely unexpected; Nico Hulkenberg has left Magnussen far behind. But it's important from a British perspective because teenager Oliver Bearman, the young Essex racer who is going to join Haas next year, will no longer be alongside Magnussen.

“The agreement is that Esteban Ocon, a race winner who is leaving the Alpine team at the end of the year, will replace Magnussen, but there has been no official announcement from Haas yet.

“Ocon has earned a bit of a reputation that he has had differences with some of his teammates over the last few years, which is probably an undeserved reputation.

“Magnussen has had a good and solid career. Over 170 grands prix, and in fact he started from second place in his debut for McLaren, but it looks like he is stepping away from F1, there doesn't seem to be any obvious place for him to continue his career on the grid.”
