A privately established Organic Village near the Defense Housing Society (DHA) in Lahore offers indigenous and fresh food and consumables.
According to the administration, 35 acres of land has been leased out by the Cantonment to create a rural environment in the urban area, where most of the vegetables, fruits and other items sold are being grown here.

Javed Iqbal, administrator of Organic Village, told Independent Urdu: ‘Villages are turning into cities, so we have tried to restore the village in the city. Everything here is grown and made in a pure and natural way. Organic products are available at all stalls, which are safe from artificial fertilizers, sprays and wastewater.’
Javed Iqbal further said that ‘jaggery is also made fresh from sugarcane at this place and even the food items at the food dhabas are prepared in desi ghee. There are also buffaloes for milk and fodder is also being raised here.’
Kiran Imran, owner of a stall, told Independent Urdu that the vegetables and fruits in the organic village are prepared naturally. “We get most of the produce locally grown and some from our own farm, but the administration does not allow the sale of chemically prepared products.”
According to Karan: “Instead of vegetables and fruits grown in traditional ways, the citizens are being sold products produced in the indigenous way according to the principles of hygiene and there is a lot of interest in the purchase of the citizens.”
Umar Khaliq, who is busy buying fruits and vegetables, said that he is getting chemical-free products at a reasonable price from Organic Village.
In a conversation with Independent Urdu, he said: ‘The food and drink items available in the market are manufactured with chemicals. We are buying vegetables and fruits from this organic village, because nothing beats health.
‘The taste of these goods is also original because they are prepared in the indigenous way and the prices are also according to the market, not set high.’
This organic village offers a village atmosphere for families to enjoy, where the tubewell and sunbeds under the trees reflect rural life.
