London Knights top Windsor 5-1 in battle for 1st overall – London | Globalnews.ca Trending Global News

Blake Montgomery and Denver Barkey each had three points and Alexei Medvedev made 40 saves as the London Knights defeated the Windsor Spitfires 5–1 at Canada Life Place on January 10.

Medvedev was named the game’s first star as he repeatedly pushed aside the Spitfires and allowed London to produce a third-period offensive burst to record its seventh win in eight games.

In doing so, the Knights ended Windsor’s eight-game winning streak.

London converted the one-goal lead into a four-goal lead by scoring three goals in a span of two minutes and 47 seconds.

Montgomery finished the season with 30 points with two goals and one assist. Barkey had a goal and two assists and now has 14 points in his last four games.

The only goal found in the back of the net in the first 20 minutes was knocked out of the air by the glove of Windsor forward Noah Morneau. This was celebrated by Spitfire but was immediately reviewed and then disallowed.

Any further chances were thwarted by Medvedev in the London net and Joey Costanzo in the Windsor crease.


Montgomery’s high-level skills were needed to start the scoring at the five-minute mark of the second period as Barkey snatched a puck from Windsor forward Liam Greentree and flipped it into the center around Montgomery. The Ottawa Senators draft pick settled the bouncing puck with his skates and then shot the puck with his stick. Montgomery then skated across the Spitfire blue line and scored his 14th goal in 22 games as a Knight.

Ilya Protas tied the game on a Spitfire power play with just over five minutes left in the middle period, as he got the rebound in front of the London net, but Montgomery found a puck on the left side of the Spitfire zone, and he fouled out. . With 11.4 seconds left on the clock the Year 15 hit the puck off the boards and wrist off Costanzo’s glove, giving the Knights a 2-1 lead in the final 20. minutes.

Cowan found his Team Canada teammate Sam Dickinson at 10:57 of the third period and Dickinson scored his 16th goal of the year.

Sam O’Reilly scored off a rebound after 42 seconds to make it 4–1. O’Reilly now has 17 goals.

Montgomery and Barkey finished the scoring on a 2-on-1, as Montgomery played a pass to Barkey at the edge of the crease and the London captain fired it home.

Windsor defeated the Knights 41–29.

London was 1-3 in the power play.

The Spitfires were 1-for-4.

Haveri makes bright start with four goals in St. Thomas

The Knights announced before their game against Windsor that Logan Howery has been assigned to the St. Thomas Stars of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League.

It took exactly 52 seconds for Howery to score his first goal in the GOJHL. He added three more to help the Stars come back from a 4–2 deficit to win 5–4 in overtime. Howery tied the game with 13 seconds remaining and then won with 1:01 in OT.

The second goal for St. Thomas was scored by London draft pick Nicholas Glanville. Havery was London’s first-round pick in 2024 and has five goals and seven points in 23 games with the Knights.

London heads to Owen Sound to play the Attack for the fifth time this year.

The Knights lead 4-0 so far in the season series but three of those games have gone beyond regulation.
