The incident allegedly took place on March 12 during the annual Holi procession in the Konkan area. When the procession reached the door of a mosque, people involved in the mob allegedly attacked the gate of the mosque, which broke the gate.

Why did the procession come out?

The procession, two kilometers long, was an annual program, ending at a nearby temple. According to tradition, those who were involved in the procession were walking with a long tree, which was placed on the stairs of the mosque. Some people allegedly tried to collide with the mosque’s gate, which shouted slogans.

However, police said no force was forced in the mosque and police personnel immediately intervened to overcome the situation.

Police rejected the claim

Ratnagiri’s SP Dhananjay Kulkarni said, “In the incident of Rajapur, the trunk of the tree used in the procession is traditionally touched to religious places. The same was done in the mosque, so the mosque was told.

After this incident, a new splash was on social media, in which political leaders also presented their stand. Some people demanded action on the incident, while others claimed that there was no sabotage other than the traditional program.

Maharashtra MLA and Shiv Sena leader Nilesh Ryan alleged in a video message that the incident had been exaggerated. According to him, this year, the closure of the mosque’s gate has worsened the situation. He also rejected reports of sectarian unrest in the area.

“We will not allow any interruption during the festival,” said Ryan. A procession was heading towards the Dupishwar temple and according to tradition, it passes through a mosque. This year, the door of the mosque was closed. Some slogans were made from both sides, but the situation was controlled. ”

He alleged, “Some politicians and media outlets are trying to show the situation out of control, which is not true. The situation in Ratanagiri is peaceful.”

‘Will the law do its job?’

Meanwhile, Amit’s leader Asaduddin Owaisi shared a video of the incident, asked Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis whether the government would take appropriate legal action. He said, “Sir Devendra Fadnavis, will the law do its job? It is a shame that the mosque was attacked in the presence of the police.”

A Maharashtra lawyer, Owais Pachkar, wrote a letter to Ratnagiri’s Superintendent Police demanding the arrest of those who tried to disturb the peace between the two communities.
