New Delhi: Former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddiqui was shot dead in Mumbai on Saturday evening of Dussehra. The incident occurred just hours after he shared a goodwill message on social media expressing his hopes for the festival.
Earlier on Saturday at 11 am, Baba Siddiqui had come to Platform X to extend his wishes saying “Happy Dussehra”.
Later that night, around 9.30 pm, three unidentified assailants opened fire on Siddiqui outside the office of his son Zeeshan Siddiqui, a Congress MLA from Mumbai.
Earlier, Baba Siddiqui had written a post on veteran industrialist Ratan Tata. Holding the X, he wrote, ‘End of an era.’
Siddiqui represented the Bandra (West) seat in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly three times. He had close relationships with Bollywood stars like Salman Khan, Shahrukh Khan and Sanjay Dutt.
Baba Siddiqui was stopped and shot by three men just outside his son’s office in Mumbai’s Kher Nagar around 9.30 pm on Saturday night. he was taken away Lilavati Hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
Two attackers have been detained. Police said the third had fled.
Police said Siddiqui was given Y category security after receiving a threat 15 days ago. He said, he was provided a personal security officer 24×7. Police are investigating whether the murder has anything to do with the SRA (Slum Rehabilitation Authority) controversy.
They are also investigating whether the Lawrence Bishnoi gang was behind the murder, given that Siddiqui was close to actor Salman Khan, who has been targeted by the gangsters.
