New dad Kevin Quiambao relishes UAAP break Trending Global News

MANILA, Philippines – Kevin Quiambao is taking advantage of his long break to spend more time with his family, especially his newborn baby.

The reigning UAAP MVP and De La Salle Green Archers have a 10-match Halloween break before returning to action against Far Eastern University on November 6 at the Mall of Asia.

Quiambao, who scored a career-high 33 points in an 80-65 win over Ateneo last Saturday, is relieved to finally have more time for his loved ones while keeping his body in top shape.

“Finally, I can take care of my child. This break is an opportunity to connect more with my family. It’s a long season, so we need to check on our families and loved ones,” Qiambao said.

The La Salle star admitted it hasn’t been easy to juggle his student-athlete life and his duties as a father.

“As a student-athlete, it’s very hard to balance time. Before, even when I didn’t have a child, it was already difficult,” Qiambao said.

“But for my family, I will do everything—I will bear all the exhaustion and insomnia. And also, I want to perform well because I am one of the leaders here. I need to set the tone for this team and lead by example.”

Despite this setback in the schedule, Qiambao has remained focused on their goal of defending the Green Archers’ title with a Final Four run until the last few games.

“This break is important for us because we have a strength and conditioning program, and Coach Miggs (Itona) and Coach Gelo (Vito) have supported us from day one,” he said.

Qiambao will face FEU rookie Vijay Pree, who also scored a career-high 31 points a day after his 33-point outburst, as La Salle hopes to secure one of two two-time-to-beat advantages .
