Novak Djokovic is withdrawn from the Italian Open in Rome, which is ready to start next week.
World No. 5 is losing the streak of five matches with its latest necklace at the Madrid Open on Saturday, when she lost to number 44 Matteo Arnaldi in the world in the second round, is still hunting Serb for her first win of the Clay-Court season.
Last year, Djokovic launched a disappointing campaign at International BNL D’Talia, won only one match before being out of the tournament, although since he started in Rome tournament in 2007, he competed every year and earned 68–12 records including six titles.
British tennis coach Jamie Delgado said, “I don’t think it is a great surprise in the sense that he is not feeling that he is very happy on the tennis court in the last couple of the tournament.”
“Their goal is clearly French open, and he sees the best way to prepare himself to take time, relax, relax and gain your energy for Paris.
“This is a big decision because, especially on the soil, he did not have the match he wanted to go to the French open, but it’s some of giving and taking something – a little break and fresh his brain for the elder, but without matches. He is clearly happy to go for that option.”
After losing Arnoldi 6-3 6-4 in Spain, Djokovic said: “This is a completely different feeling that I had in more than 20 years of professional tennis.
“This is mentally a challenge to me that I actually face such sensations in court, going out regularly in tournaments now.”
Djokovic has not ranked more weeks than any other tennis player, but currently sits fifth.
Serb, who won in 2024 or 2025, was the only title gold medal, which he claimed by defeating Carlos Alakraj in the final of the Paris Olympics in August.
Djokovic is also retired during the Australian Open in January because due to a torn Hamstring muscle.
