Paris Paralympics 2024: Double podium finish in high jump-javelin, India makes Paralympic Games history with 20 medals Trending Global News

Day 6 of the Paris Paralympics went very well for India. Indian athletes won a total of 5 medals in high jump, javelin throw and 400m race. India has won a total of 20 medals (3 gold, 7 silver and 10 bronze) at the Paris Paralympics 2024 so far, surpassing the tally of 19 at the Tokyo Paralympics. This is the first time in the history of Paralympic Games that India has won 20 medals. In the men’s javelin throw F46 event final, Ajit Singh won the silver medal with a personal best throw of 65.62 metres. Sundar Singh Gurjar bagged the bronze medal with a season’s best throw of 64.96.

Cuba’s Verona Gonzalez won the gold medal in the event with a throw of 66.14 meters. Along with this, India achieved its first ever double podium finish in athletics at the Paris Paralympics. However, soon after, in the High Jump T63 event, Sharad Kumar and Maripan Thangavelu once again gave India a double podium finish. Sharad Kumar won the silver medal with a jump of 1.88m and Maripan won the bronze medal with a jump of 1.85m. USA’s French Ezra won the gold medal in the event with a jump of 1.94 meters.

Earlier in the day, Deepti Jeonji won the bronze medal in the women’s 400m T20 race with a time of 55.82 seconds. Ukraine’s Yulia Sholyar won the gold medal of the event with a time of 55.16 seconds to take the silver, in archery, Pooja won her round of 16 in the women’s individual recurve open. But she missed a big chance to pull off an upset against China’s Wu Chunyan, losing the match 6-0.

In shooting, Avni Lekhra qualified for the final in the women’s 50m rifle three-position SH1. But in the medal match, he had to settle for 5th after a strong start due to some missed shots in the prone round. After Tokyo, Oni also won a gold medal in 10m in Paris. He won a bronze medal in the 50m 3P in Tokyo. Earlier yesterday was a historic day for India with a total of eight medals won. Earlier in the day in athletics, Bhagya Shri Jadhav finished fifth in the women’s shot put F34 event.
