New Delhi: Veteran wrestler Vinesh Phogat said on Saturday that under “various circumstances” she may compete till 2032 as she still has a lot of wrestling left in her but she does not know about the future. Vinesh announced her retirement from the sport after being disqualified from the women’s 50 kg final at the Paris Olympics for being 100 grams overweight. He challenged the decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) but his appeal was rejected.
In an emotional post on social media, Vinesh shared his childhood dreams, the hardships he faced after losing his father. She also recalled people’s support in her extraordinary journey, in a post shared on ‘X’, Vinesh recounted the incident of weighing herself on the day of the finals and wrote, ‘I just want to say this. That we did not give up, our efforts did not stop, but the clock stopped and the time was not right. Perhaps it was my luck that my team, my fellow Indians and my family realized that the goal we were working towards and the goal we had planned to achieve was incomplete. Something may always be missing and things may never be the same again.

He wrote, ‘Perhaps under different circumstances I can see myself playing till 2032, because the struggle and wrestling will always be in me. I can’t predict what the future holds for me, but I look forward to the journey. I believe that I will always fight for what I believe in and what is right.

He said that his coach Villar Akos does not believe in the word ‘impossible’ and Dr. Dinsha Pardiwala is like an angel. Dr Pardiwala, who headed the 13-member medical team organized by the IOA to assist the Indian contingent in Paris, recently faced unfair criticism after Vinesh was found to be 100 grams over the 50 kg limit. .

IOA president PT Osha also defended Dr Pardiwala after this. “For me and I think for many other Indian players, he is not just a doctor, but like an angel sent by God,” he said. When I stopped believing in myself after being hurt, her faith gave me courage again.

Vinesh said, ‘He has operated on me not once but three times (on both knees and one elbow) and has shown me how flexible the human body can be. Vinesh has mentioned his difficult childhood in this post. He said that his father died at a young age and his mother was battling cancer. Vinesh said that the battle for survival taught him a lot. He wrote, ‘…existence taught me a lot. Seeing my mother’s struggles, never-say-die attitude and fighting spirit made me who I am. He taught me to fight for my rights. Whenever I think of courage, I think of him and it is courage that helps me fight every battle without thinking about the outcome. She also revealed that her husband Somveer Rathi always protected her no matter what.
