First, Prime Minister Modi X (formerly Twitter) tweeted and congratulated Manu Bhaker on becoming the first woman to win a medal in the shooting competition.
“A historic medal! Congratulations @realmanubhaker on winning India’s first medal at the #ParisOlympics2024! Congratulations on the bronze medal,” Modi said in a post on Twitter.

Prime Minister Modi said, “This success is even more special as she has become the first woman to win a medal in shooting for India. An incredible achievement!”
Manu Bhaker finished third, just 0.1 points behind silver medallist Oh Yejin of South Korea, while her compatriot Korean Kim Yeji won the gold.

With this win, Manu ended India’s 12-year Olympic medal drought in shooting. India last won a medal in shooting at the 2012 Summer Games, when Gagan Narang won bronze in the men’s 10m air rifle in London.
In her first reaction after her maiden win, Manu Bhaker said that strong belief in herself helped her achieve her dreams.
Bhaker told the media after winning the bronze medal, “I worked very hard. It is a bronze medal, but I am happy that I could win a bronze medal for the country. I have studied the Gita a lot. As Lord Krishna says, focus on the action, not the result of the action.”
When asked what her strong comeback in Paris means to her, she said, “I was very disappointed after Tokyo, but I came back stronger. Let the past be the past.”
