Protest over Vaishno Devi Ropeway Project turns violent in J&K | India News – Times of India Trending Global News

New Delhi: A protest ropeway project Violence broke out near Vaishno Devi temple on Monday after protesters, including pony and palanquin owners, clashed with police. Katra Base Camp A police officer was injured in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir.
The protesters decided to extend their initial 72-hour strike by an additional 24 hours on Sunday evening.
After this the protest started Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board Announced a Rs 250 crore ropeway system connecting Tarakote Marg to Sanji Chhat over a distance of 12 km.

Local business owners and workers are concerned that the two-year construction project will eliminate their source of income.
Tension escalated on Monday when protesters stopped a CRPF vehicle trying to pass through the protest area and damaged the windscreen of the vehicle.
After police intervention to remove the vehicles, some protesters started throwing bricks at law enforcement officials.
Senior Superintendent of Police (Reasi) Paramveer Singh said, “The law and order situation has become challenging and we are trying to handle it. Officials are in talks with the protesters to resolve the issue.”
The protesters are demanding either the cancellation of the project or financial compensation for the affected persons.
